Strengths:
Sidney Rice was a legitimate #1 offensive option the past two
seasons for a high-octane offense at South Carolina. Wide Receivers
in Steve Spurrier's offense regularly post gaudy numbers, but Sidney
Rice does not fit the mold of former Spurrier WR's like Reidel
Anthony, Jacquez Green, and Ike Hilliard, that have not succeed in
the NFL. Many of those receivers had limited upside, while Rice has
virtually limitless upside potential. He has amazing ball skills,
great hands, he is smooth in traffic, and he has great body control
while attacking a ball while in mid air. While being the fifth
ranked receiver in this class, Sidney Rice is still a top
twenty-five prospect overall. A team at the bottom of the first
round is going to get one heck of a steal.
Weaknesses:
Sidney Rice is just 20 years old and after a sophomore campaign that
was less productive than the freshman season some scouts feel that
even a player with the talents of Rice may be a product of the Fun
N’ Gun system. He also needs to refine his route running to become a
more consistent threat in the NFL. Rice needs to use his size better and
learn how to get separation at the next level.
Overall:
Another WR who may not blow people away initially with the results
early on in his rookie season, tough to ask a twenty year old WR to
step into the league and dominate immediately. Sidney Rice has all
of the physical tools needed to dominate in the NFL, and that should
ensure that he is a high pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
