Strengths:
Johnnie Lee Higgins continued to progress and improve all facets of
his game during his four year career at UTEP. Higgins had a strong
1300 yard, 13 TD performance during his senior season, that
impressed many GMs and scouts alike. Higgins is a speedster that
puts tremendous pressure on an opposing defense. In the eyes of The
War Room Report, the stock of Johnnie Lee Higgins continues to
climb.
Weaknesses:
Johnnie Lee Higgins had the distinct advantage or disadvantage,
depending upon your perspective, of playing in Conference USA, where
the level of competition is lower than the BCS conferences. Higgins
also needs to bulk up and add strength to his 186 pound frame to
take the necessary hits and punishment at the NFL level. Also, like
most of the wide receivers entering the draft, he needs to refine
route running to elevate his rate of success of getting open against
NFL defensive backs.
Overall:
Johnnie Lee Higgins is one of the more underrated wide receiver
prospects in the 2007 NFL Draft. He has the right combination of
size, speed, and route running ability to project to an excellent
“sleeper” pick in the third round of the draft. Higgins must add
some weight to become an every down receiver, but in time this will
not be a problem and Higgins will be an excellent addition to just
about any NFL team.
