Strengths:
Craig Davis will be the second LSU receiver to come off the
board in the 2007 NFL Draft, but he won’t have to wait too long to
hear his name called in New York. Davis has excellent size and is
fast enough for his game to translate to the next level. Davis is
versatile enough to play outside or in the slot. Davis has excellent
upside potential, and he may even run better routes than his college
teammate, Dwayne Bowe, who is likely to be selected ahead of him.
Weaknesses:
Like his LSU counterpart Dwayne Bowe, Davis never put up eye-popping
numbers at LSU. Only on one occasion did Davis break the century
mark in any game his entire career as a Tiger. Whether that is due
to the fact that he was clearly the #2 option for LSU or not, it is
still a red flag that should be looked at closely. Does Davis have
the game to dominate and be someone to be feared in the NFL or is he
just another additional piece to throw into an offense? Bottom Line:
Is he a difference maker?
Overall:
Craig Davis has the look as a solid WR prospect, but not
spectacular. His upside is not in the range of the top 6 wide
receivers in this class. That being said, he is a solid player who
does many things well. Davis would be a perfect fit for a team that
already has a legit #1 receiver, but needs a solid #2 to take
pressure off of the #1 target and ensure that NFL defenses respect
multiple weapons on the particular offense.
