TE5 - Joe Newton, Oregon State Joe NewtonOfficial Bio

NFL.com Profile
Height: 6-7
Weight: 257
40 yard dash: 4.89
Grade: 63
Strengths:
Newton has ideal size and despite his 6-7 frame, he is an athletic player. He is skilled at getting open and has good ball skills. Newton will fight for the ball in traffic and should be a solid target in the red zone. Newton works hard as a blocker.
Weaknesses:
Newton is not a top downfield target with only marginal speed. Newton must work on improving his strength and leg drive as a blocker. There are durability concerns after several injuries at Oregon State.
Overall:
Newton is a similar prospect to several other tight ends in this class, as he is a good red zone threat who can catch the ball, but must work on his blocking to be a full time NFL player. He does not have the speed to be a vertical threat in the passing game, but he works hard and should be useful.
