S4 - Brandon Meriweather Brandon Meriweather

NFL.com Profile

Height: 5-11
Weight: 195
40 yard dash: 4.49
Grade: 89
Strengths:
Meriweather is a gifted athlete who provides excellent coverage. He has great range and uses his instincts and quickness to deny the ball. He is skilled at reading plays and is a solid tackler. He is an aggressive player who attacks the ball carrier despite having less than ideal bulk. Meriweather is very willing to help in the run game and has the versatility to help a team in a variety of ways in the secondary.

Weaknesses:

Meriweather does not have the ideal size or bulk for a safety. His aggressive nature can lead to injuries especially if he fails to get stronger. He must work on improving his strength or he risks being taken out of plays. After an incident in the Florida International game and some off the field concerns, his character is in question. With the recent emphasis being placed on character in the NFL, it is possible Meriweather could slide in the draft.

Overall:
Even without the character concerns, opinions vary greatly on Meriweather. His coverage skills are outstanding but may not be as strong as Reggie Nelson or Michael Griffin. His willingness to help in the run game is appreciated, but he must bulk up in order to stay healthy with that playing style. The character concerns can not be overlooked but Meriweather's coverage skills should have him taken off the board towards the end of Round 1 to the middle of Round 2.
