S1 - LaRon Landry, LSU LaRon Landry

NFL.com Profile

Height: 6-0
Weight: 213
40 yard dash: 4.35
Grade: 94
Strengths:
LaRon Landry was a four year starter for one of the best teams in the country. He has adequate size for his position and above average quickness and top end speed. He has top notch instincts, which allow to break to the ball consistently and read the running game well. His long speed allows him to be a sideline to sideline tackler. His coverage skills are strong as he can handle zone coverage easily and can handle most slot receivers and tight ends in man coverage. Landry's tackling skills are strong. He is a terrific leader who has all of the necessary experience you could want in a prospect.

Weaknesses:

The only real knock on Landry is that he could stand to add some bulk if he is going to be taking on NFL running back and tight ends on a regular basis. At times he can get a little overly aggressive, but his experience and football knowledge limit those mistakes.

Overall:

Landry is
the total safety package. While he may not be as flashy as recent safety prospects Sean Taylor or Roy Williams, Landry plays with more discipline and is possibly a better overall prospect. His brother Dawan started at safety for the Ravens, and LaRon Landry is the much better prospect. He should step in immediately and make an impact in the NFL, much as he did during his four years at LSU where he totaled 315 tackles. Landry is among the safest prospects in the draft and should come off the board in the top half of Round One.
