Height: 5-11 Weight: 195 40 yard dash: 4.80 Grade: 38
Strengths: Gary Russell has great acceleration and can navigate holes quickly. Once he gets in the open field, he is skilled at making defenders miss. Russell has adequate hands and rarely fumbles the ball. Weaknesses: Russell lacks the ideal size for a NFL running back. He may not be able to last an entire NFL season as a starter, but he does not have the pass catching ability to excel as a 3rd down back. He was dismissed from Minnesota for academic reasons. He showed up at the scouting combine overweight, and disappointed with a 4.80 40 yard dash. Overall: Russell appeared to be a sleeper prospect for the 2007 NFL Draft, after missing the 2006 season. However, his combine performance now makes it likely that he will not even be drafted.
