Strengths:
Excellent size and is awfully powerful. Once Tony Ugoh gets his
hands locked on an opposing defensive end, they rarely, if ever get
away. Some scouts do not believe that Ugoh can translate to a tackle
on the left side of the offensive line, the War Room Report feels
more to the contrary. With coaching at the next level, we feel that
although very raw, his intangibles, strength, and massive frame make
Tony Ugoh an excellent candidate to become a franchises future left
tackle.
Weaknesses:
It is true that if he gets his hands on defenders, they have
trouble getting away, however, at times it appears that he plays a
bit on the passive side so this is a bit of a concern. As stated, he
is a bit raw, so he will need additional coaching on footwork and
technique, and his work ethic has been a question mark, so the
coaches will really need to harp on Tony Ugoh to ensure he
progresses adequately.
Overall:
He has excellent upside and is worth a selection early-mid round
two in the 2007 NFL Draft, jut do not expect polish as Tony Ugoh is
nowhere near as refined as the three offensive tackle prospects
ranked ahead of him, Joe Thomas, Levi Brown, or Joe Staley. Expect a
“project” and expect your coaching staff to go through headaches and
a lot of hard work, but in the end, Tony Ugoh is well worth the
risk.
