Strengths:
Tim Shaw is just another in the long line of linebacker
prospects out of “Linebacker U” who will project well to the National Football
League. Tim Shaw is a solid tackler with an excellent work ethic. He is a very
smart football player who seems like he will be able to make a smooth transition
to a NFL level defense. Tim Shaw is a tough player who could become a fan
favorite quickly, as he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. A
top prep running back, he worked exceptionally well at the combine, posting some
of the best times.
Weaknesses:
He moved positions on
several occasion while at Penn State, so he doesn’t possess much game
experience and that will make the transition to the pro level all the more
difficult. He can get stiff through his hips at times and will need to become
more fluid to succeed in man coverage. Like many linebacker prospects, Shaw must
work on shedding blocks as he enters the NFL.
Overall:
Tim Shaw entered Penn State as a highly touted RB recruit, but switched to
defense. He played a variety of positions for the Nittany Lions and really stood
out at the combine, running one of the fastest 40 yard dash times and posting
great agility numbers. He will need to gain experience as an OLB in the NFL, but
he has the physical tools to succeed. He could really fill a variety of
positions at the NFL level, including a Cover 2 OLB or a 3-4 ILB. |
