Strengths:
Paul Posluszny is a throwback LB back to the days when
linebackers were not measured in 40 times and vertical jumps, but
rather how hard you hit, how solid a tackler you were, and how
feared opponents were of you. Paul Posluszny is an extremely quick
player on the football field and when he hits someone he wraps up
and brings them down, Paul Posluszny is the best tackler in the 2007
NFL Draft. He is also a very smart and instinctive player. He may
not be the greatest athlete in the draft, but he will make all the
solid plays, and you will not have too worry about him making many
mistakes.
Weaknesses:
Paul Posluszny, like most other linebacker prospects, has
trouble with shedding blocks, and it will only become more
troublesome due to the giant leap in talent at the next level.
Injuries are also a major concern. Posluszny had an incredible
junior season leading to him winning the Butkus Award, but was
injured during the last game of the season. Coming back from a major
knee injury and moving to middle linebacker caused Posluszny to
struggle off and on during his senior campaign. Anytime a player who
lacks top end speed has a knee injury, it is a major concern for
future prospects.
Overall:
Described by many pundits as a “poor man’s” AJ Hawk, Paul
Posluszny is one of the few players that will have little problem
transitioning his game to the National Football League. He is a very
aggressive, very solid tackler and will be a solid fit in a 4-3
defense immediately. I think the struggles you saw from injuries and
the move to a new position this past season will be all but gone
when training camp opens up. Paul Posluszny may never be a
spectacular player in the NFL, but he should be a solid player for
the next decade.
