Profile |
Height: 6-2
Weight: 311
40 yard dash: 5.20
Grade: 88 |
Strengths:
Ben Grubbs fits the ideal mode for what NFL scouts and GMs are
looking for when they scout for offensive guards. What Ben Grubbs
succeeds at more than every other offensive guard prospect in the
2007 Draft class is the ability to block the initial pass rusher and
then transition to the second level. Ben Grubbs is the best “pure”
offensive guard prospect in this draft.
Weaknesses:
Ben Grubbs could still use some work on technique. He was a former
defensive prospect so he has only been an offensive line prospect
for a short period of time. Versatility could be an issue as well,
as Grubbs doesn’t have the skill set to become a tackle in any
capacity at the NFL level, and he is left handed and some scouts
feel that he would struggle if asked to play right guard.
Overall:
This past off-season has been a time when many offensive guards have
cashed in on the open market of free agency. Offensive guards are
getting the treatment that was prior only reserved for offensive
tackles, so the NFL mindset in regards to offensive lines overall is
in a period of transition. Ben Grubbs has the talent to start at
Left Guard for the vast majority of NFL teams right now, and
although he may be regarded as an early-mid second round talent, he
could sneak into the end of round one if a team is willing to focus
their attention to the interior of their offensive line. |
