Strengths:
Josh Beekman may not be one of the
“sexier” draft prospect entering the 2007 NFL Draft, however, he is a player
whom can be drafted in the second round or beyond and step right in and start
from day one and continue to be someone you can count on at the NFL level for
the next decade. He is a player who NFL scouts like to deem a “road grader” and
will live up to this moniker. He is very strong and does not give up any ground to
onrushing defensive lineman. Josh Beekman is an
intelligent player who picks up the blitz with an aggressive fashion.
Fundamentally sound and will fit just about any teams blocking scheme. He also
has the added versatility of being able to play center
Weaknesses:
Lacks ideal quickness, so pulling out and leading the team’s
running back on a counter play may not be the ideal situation for Josh Beekman. His lack of quickness and proper footwork could
cause him to get beat on occasion in the passing game. May
not have any aspect to his game that he can hang his hat on and diagnose as
“great”.
Overall
To describe any one player’s future prospects with one
statement does not do said prospect justice, but to help simplify Josh Beekman this statement rings more true than any, he is an
excellent run blocker, but his pass blocking will need some work. Offensive lineman from Boston College notoriously translate very well to the National Football
League, and there is no reason to feel that Josh Beekman
will not be the next in line of excellent BC prospects. Josh Beekman
is one of the few prospects in the 2007 NFL Draft that you know what you are
getting, and that is a solid, yet not spectacular player. |
