NFL.com
Profile |
Height: 6-3
Weight: 245
40 yard dash: 4.62
Grade: 71 |
Strengths:
From an athletic standpoint, the potential for Anthony Waters is through the
roof. Anthony Waters was blessed with athletic gifts you can rarely find. His
combination of height and size, make him a very interesting prospect in the 2007
NFL Draft. Anthony Waters is an ultra-aggressive player who could become a force
in defending the pass, stuffing the run, and could become a force that could
result in multiple sacks.
Weaknesses:
It is a shame when such a talented players suffers due to injuries over the
course of his collegiate career, and this just so happens to be the case with
Anthony Waters. He went down in the season opener and had season-ending ACL
surgery. Anthony Waters was considered to be a liability in some cases due to a
lack of lateral movement, and having a severe knee injury will only hamper him
even more in this regard. His hips are also a bit stiff and he sometimes plays
too high.
Overall:
With Anthony Waters it is the age old debate: style vs. substance. He is
physically gifted and this could translate him to being an incredible player,
but he never fully dominated at Clemson and now coming off a season where he had
a severe knee injury, question marks abound. That being said, NFL scouts and GMs
have always been blown away by athletic prowess, the latest example could be
found in the 2006 NFL Draft where Antonio Cromartie was drafted in the middle of
round one, and he never played more than ½ a season while at Florida State, but
his athletic gifts were too good to pass up. The same can be said for Anthony
Waters, although with the ACL injury I don’t expect to hear his name called in
round one, more like the end of round three or in round four.
