MLB5 - Buster Davis, Florida State Buster Davis

NFL.com Profile

Height: 5-9
Weight: 239
40 yard dash: 4.67
Grade: 75
Strengths:
Buster Davis is one of the more experienced and athletic inside linebacker prospects entering the 2007 NFL Draft. Florida State has been a hotbed of producing NFL caliber linebacker prospects for well over the past decade, and Buster Davis is going to fit right in with past lineage. Plays sideline to sideline, and plays much quicker than people believe. Buster Davis is an underrated player in terms of the blitz, and provides bone jarring hits on a consistent basis. He has some of the better instincts of any player at any position entering the 2007 NFL Draft.
Weaknesses:
In the NFL, size does matter, and size is one attribute that Buster Davis does not possess. Buster Davis is listed at just over 5’9 and although he has a solid frame of just over 240 pounds, the thought process is that at 5’9 his frame has maxed out and from a physical standpoint, there is only so much progression that can be made on the part of Buster Davis. May struggle in pass coverage at the NFL level and will have to prove that he can take on a block, shed it, and make an NFL caliber play on the opposition. Buster Davis is another linebacker prospect who no legitimate scout or GM should define as a “ball hawk.”
Overall:
Most scouts have read this book before about the undersized middle linebacker who makes good. When looking at Buster Davis and his complete body of work it is difficult to not think of a Zach Thomas or London Fletcher-Baker. He will struggle initially to the size and speed that is the National Football League, but Buster Davis has the instincts and the intangibles to succeed nonetheless. Buster Davis will become a solid contributor to a defensive coordinator willing to use him in the right fashion and will become a fan favorite as soon as he is drafted.
