Strengths:
Brandon Mebane is an explosive and very productive defensive
tackle prospect. Mebane may not be receiving the same amount of
praise as other defensive tackles in the 2007 Draft Class, but his
production on the field will be similar when all is said and done.
While many of the other DTs drafted prior to his selection have
questionable work ethics and only play at 100% on some downs,
Brandon Mebane has a motor that will not quit and continues to come
at you with a force every single snap.
Weaknesses:
Brandon Mebane is listed at 6’1 so his height is a cause for
concern. He will rarely bat a ball down at the line of scrimmage and
taller quarterbacks should be able to look over him easily, so
Brandon Mebane will not be able to interfere with a quarterbacks
line of sight or vision on the football field. He is a solid notch
below other DT prospects in this draft athletically. He will be a
solid contributor, but will never be considered a playmaker.
Overall:
Brandon Mebane has been overlooked recently by many draft scouts
when they are making predictions about the upcoming 2007 NFL Draft.
The War Room Report is not insinuating that Mebane should be ranked
above Okoye, Branch, or Harrell, but he is a solid top 5 defensive
tackle prospect in this draft. He may not be the sexy pick, but in
regards of having a high motor and a decent spike upwards in
potential, he resembles former DT prospect Mike Patterson. His
smallish frame could keep him confined to a one-gap system, but he
is still an excellent value if he is selected at the end of Round
Two.
