DT2 - Alan Branch, Michigan Alan Branch

NFL.com Profile

Height: 6-5
Weight: 324
40 yard dash: 5.04
Grade: 93

Strengths:
Alan Branch is 6’5, 325 pounds and a player with his motor will be a formidable force in the middle of a defensive line for any team to stop. He reminds WRR scouts of former DT prospect John Henderson. Branch will cause teams to double team him in order to keep him from getting into the backfield initially. With his height and long arms Branch will also be able to knock balls down on a consistent basis. Alan Branch has excellent versatility to become a defensive playmaker against the opposing teams rushing game as well as their passing attack.
Weaknesses:
As are most defensive tackle prospects, Alan Branch was a very one dimensional pass rusher at the collegiate level. Most defensive tackle prospects are more talented and much stronger than their opposition at the collegiate ranks, and can rely on the bull rush to get to the passer, only to find that they must refine their techiqnue if they are going to sack the passer at the NFL level.
Overall:
Alan Branch is a unique defensive tackle prospect due to the fact that he could succeed as a DT in a 4-3 defensive scheme or he could be just as, if not more important of a prospect as a nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme. Finding a defensive tackle that has that potential to play both positions is a rare commodity and adds value to the stock of Alan Branch. He will need some coaching at the next level to accentuate his progress and overall development. If he is receptive to said coaching, Alan Branch will become one of the better young defensive tackles in the National Football League.
