Profile |
Height: 6-3
Weight: 281
40 yard dash: 4.88
Grade: 82 |
Strengths:
A top prep player, McDonald had a strong career for the Gators.
McDonald has a solid frame and despite a lack of great timed speed,
he has a good burst off the line of scrimmage. One of the rare
defensive ends in this class who can hold his own at the point of
attack, McDonald has good strength and really improved his technique
in 2006, as he started to use his hands more effectively.
Weaknesses:
McDonald has a good initial burst but does not have very good long
speed. He has a tendency to get too high and get taken out of the
play when the blocker can reach his body. He needs to develop more
pass rushing moves. McDonald had a pair of serious knee injuries
while at Florida, which yields concerns about his durability.
Overall:
McDonald may be considered a "tweener" who does not have the
bulk to play defensive tackle or the speed to play defensive end
after moving over to the tackle position halfway through the 2006
season. He projects to be a very solid pro but is unlikely to ever
record double digit sacks. He may be best suited for a defensive end
position in a 3-4 scheme because of his strength and ability to hold
up well at the point of attack. |
