CB3 - Chris Houston, Arkansas |

NFL.com
Profile |
Height: 5-10
Weight: 185
40 yard dash: 4.32
Grade: 91 |
Strengths:
Chris Houston has adequate size and uses his size to physically
match up with bigger receivers. He has good power and long arms that
allow him to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage, which the
scheme at Arkansas requires. He is one of the fastest players in the
draft and is able to turn and run with receivers. He has good change
of direction skill in case he is beat to recover quickly. Houston is
an extremely confident corner who has potentially the most upside of
any CB in the class.
Weaknesses:
Houston could have benefited from another year at Arkansas to
improve his technique. He is still raw and relies on his physical
skills too much. With his confidence comes an overly aggressive
style of play that can leave him susceptible to double moves. He is
not the best at supporting the run, as he is not as aggressive in
run support as he is in the passing game. He is not the best open
field tackler. Despite great athleticism, he does not have elite
ball skills.
Overall:
Chris Houston made a name for himself with a solid junior
season in which he shut down top receivers Robert Meacham and Dwayne
Jarrett. He is drawing comparisons to former Arkansas corner Ahmad
Carroll and while there is some reason for concern, Houston is a
better overall prospect. Houston, unlike Hall and Revis, has the
ability to develop into a true shutdown corner, but he also has a
much higher bust factor than those two players. For a prospect of
his caliber more interceptions and pass deflections would have been
expected. Houston could possibly be the first corner off the board,
but the risk factor makes him more deserving of a pick in the bottom
third of Round One. |
